Today has become very significant day for the Czech branch of Google, with the launch of its 17th localised services. More specifically, the Czech map portal http://mapy.google.cz. Today is just as significant for World Media Partners, the operator of the portal of the Czech Republic www.CZeCOT.com, which has just become the partner in supplying data for this new map portal.
We asked Project Manager Vit Pechanec about the satisfaction with working together with such an important player on the internet field: „We signed the work and supply contract in autumn of last year and have since been waiting anxiously for the launch of Czech Google maps. Our database contains 30000 points of interest, corresponding to ca. 40000 centres of travel and tourism. The majority of this data was provided to Google. However, we regret that Google has not managed to process all of the data we have provided in time for the launch. Nevertheless, it is a great honour that Google has chosen us as the most significant supplier of travel and tourism data and makes this very data accessible through its maps. At the present, we are additionally completing a brand new extensive databank of tourist destinations, which we would like Google to offer on its map portal as well." We will also surely please mobile phone owners, as such map applications have been launched for themwww.google.cz/gmm . Here you also have the possibility with the help of mobile phone operator transmitters (BTS) to localise your position and have it displayed on your mobile phone directly on a map background.
